Well, I bought the Forbidden Patterns book. I found it very disappointing for $39.95. Very sparse, and a certain amount is just not believable. And of course riddled with the usual spelling and grammatical errors that seem to plague writers in this field.

But boy oh boy, did Jack Ellis hit the ball out of the park with the Cult Control book! Holy crap. Well worth double the price!

I've been involved in self-improvement retreats and Amway and the professional side of organized religion, and it seems Jack has penetrated all of the defenses of such organizations and reveals all!

He is absolutely right on about recruiting, indoctrination, and retention of members. Made me want to run right out and start my own cult. Every ingredient necessary is right there.

And if you don't want to start your own cult, at least you'll recognize immediately what is happening to you when you set foot in something like Pathways or a similar workshop where they will make you tired and emotionally drained and confront you and disorient you and feed you their dogma.

This book is astonishingly great and will amaze you with its insights into every type of organization, from religious to fraternal to commercial. Wow, what a great find!
