NLP Persuasion Skills in Training

The following article will take you through several videos that will show you some of the ways you can use NLP Persuasion Techniques in a training context. Any trainer will get lots of tools and ideas from this. If you are not a trainer the following videos will give you a great insight into how you can use a variety of persuasion tactics in a structured and therefore very powerful way.

Applications of Hypnotic Persuasion in Training

Setting the Frames

I was asked to put together a one day programme for a small group of trainers. All of them have some experience of training but not all of them have experience of NLP, Hypnosis or Persuasion Skills.

Since I knew I would have to give them some information about the various techniques I would cover for the day I put together some videos to explain the topics.

This first video shows the key concepts that need to be threaded through your course for it to be effective. This is the first of three videos about for the trainers about NLP Applications

In this next video you will see me using these principles to set up a Persuasion Skills Workshop

Involving Your Audience

The next video is about techniques that draw your audience in, build rapport and set up anticipation loops. Training needs to at least keep people interested and involved and at its best should capture and lead the imagination.

In this next video we discuss two ways of building a common purpose in the group and holding their interest in NLP Jargon we are talking about Charisma Patterns and Anticipation Loops

Creating Change

At its most fundamental training is about creating change. In the final part of our one day programme I would be discussing the power of presuppositional questioning techniques and if there is enough time how you can create emotional state changes in your audience using anchors.

These are obviously jargon terms that if you are not used to would have no meaning for you. The final video of the series has a little more information for you explaining the terms and how you might apply them. Both NLP Questioning Techniques and Anchoring are powerful techniques for change.

Anchoring in Training – NLP Applications

There are huge applications for anchoring both in and outside of a training environment. This link will take you to some detailed, “How to” articles and videos that give you more specific information on using Anchors.

Thanks for another really interesting and useful article.
Just a thought on spatial anchoring: have you noticed how newsreaders will often not only change their tone when a particularly disturbing item is imminent, but their producer will shift the camera shot for the duration of the piece?

Hi Stuart,

Well spotted the reason they change the shot, tone and gestures is they don’t want the audience anchoring bad news to their presenters. I used to do the same as a trainer. I would have a special place to stand if I had to tell the group bad news.

Hi Rintu,
As usual, some excellent examples, paced and delivered in easy to understand language.
Your first video referring to beliefs and values really made a lot of sense. These 2 are items I like to work with early on when helping clients in my day job. The concept of identifying this in a training environment really makes sense.

Often I find the quality of my training courses relies on how well I do this front end. Invariably when a course does not run well it is because I have not set this up properly and when I have set this up properly the rest of the course automatically runs well.

I am Chinese , living in HongKong .
I eager for your help indeed !
During this month .I have a song stuck in my head and I can’t get it out no matter what I do.

Someone tell me to use “Play CD”
1.Imagine play the song once in mind
2.Imagine press “Stop button”
3.Reverse the song quickly in ONE SECOND
4.Play the song speedy(I find it difficult to imagine this)

But ….it doesn’t work !
Can you teach me how can I break free from this nightmare ?

I almost agree using another song to cover original one may be work ….
but the real issue is I want a peaceful mind and that is why I ask Rintu

I don’t think there is much I would add here. You can take the conversation up on the facebook page where there is better opportunity to discuss this with others as well as myself.

A quick reframe on your previous comment would be if you can replace it with another song just replace it with a quieter song and then repeat until you replace the last song with a song so quiet that you can’t hear it.

How do you covertly change beliefs though?

Hi Cara,
That is a huge question. On the APP we look at how beliefs are constructed and various ways of changing them.

Many beliefs are state dependant. For example think about how your views of the world and what you are capable of when you are happy vs. when you are depressed.

So one form of belief change could be just about making state changes when you think of the unhelpful belief.

Another set of beliefs are held in place by emotions. For example if you were attacked by a dog as a child you might have created a belief that all dogs are dangerous and lived with that fear.

On the APP we go through a variety of techniques to strip away that emotion from the belief so you can look at it with just logic both overtly and covertly.

There are many other ways you can look at belief changes and we cover lots of them on the Advanced Persuasion Pattern course.
