NLP Techniques to Frame a Conversation

preframe

The video you will see in today’s article is a demonstration of how you can covertly install a set of frames so that your audience has to follow the path that you set out for them. This works for individuals as much as groups.

Preframes, the Key to Persuasion

A quick search through the articles on this site will give you many Hypnosis Tools and NLP Techniques where you can subvert the frames and as a result lead people anywhere you want to go. And in many cases you actually want to do this in a much gentler, less obvious and covert way than I do it. Remember I have a reputation to maintain and I teach by demonstration so I need to be blatant enough for people to notice doing it.

In this seven minute video you will see how I do it in a training room. This will work in lots of different contexts. All you need to do is work out the exact process for your situation. To get the most out of the video you may want to watch it a few times. Probably four times. If you are short for time feel free to watch once but simultaneously on four different levels.

And if you want to learn how to take the information in one pass then feel free to:

Level One: Watch for Content

The information in these seven minutes is really useful. If you have never met this sort of thinking before then this is going to completely change the way you look at conversations and what happens inside your head when people talk to you. Welcome to never having a normal conversation again.

Level Two: Listen for Patterns

My intention with this audience is to draw them in so they listen, are amazed with the material, accept me as an authority and allow me to lead them through the rest of the talk. As a consequence I am chunking and sequencing the information I give them in a particular way. By analysing the patterns I am using and the sequences I am putting them in you will dramatically increase your understanding of how hypnotic language works.

Level Three: Application

Think about how you could use the same patterns and processes. As I play with this audience you can see that I start to turning it into stuff they can directly apply. Obviously I had previously asked them for some applications and I am starting to tailor the content specifically for what they said. But you are also outside the interaction between me and the audience and that means you can take not only my content but also my process and apply it to your situation.

And as for level four…ask yourself what I have already done to preframe the video that you are about to see and how does this affect your view of it before you have even seen it.

All the Fun of Learning Great Skills

There will be some readers that will be looking at this video and be thinking why bother watching at such depth. The reality is by learning on multiple levels like this dramatically increases your knowledge of how persuasion works. Being outside of the system but knowing what is going on allows you to discover a different level of content than you could normally gain.. It is not about watching a video a few times it is all about developing your skills, watching human interactions and the immense sense of excitement you get when these things work for yourself.

My general philosophy is that I want to work hard at playing with this material when I don’t need it…so when it is really important the skills kick in and work without me having to focus on them. And there is a simpler way of taking the information on. All you need do is:

As an avid Black Book reader, working my way through it (I’ve got to ‘awareness patterns’ so far), I’m AWARE that I haven’t reached a full understanding YET of your mastery of this subject BECAUSE I’ve not finished the book and explored other options you offer. So THAT MEANS I’m enjoying all this additional content that comes up in my emails and Twitter feed which helps me NOTICE the ever deeper aspects of what you teach. So I hope you are AWARE of how appreciative we all are for the knowledge you impart. ?

      Michael,

Thanks for saying and you have hit on one of the best ways of practising. Writing comments like yours always makes me smile because it shows me that you are taking this stuff, trying it out and playing with it. Thanks for taking the time to stop by and comment.

      Cheers

Concerning level 4, you start out this post with “The video you will see in today’s article is a demonstration of how you can covertly install a set of frames so that your audience has to follow the path that you set out for them. This works for individuals as much as groups.” that sets the expectation (maybe even wild anticipation).
Then, in the chapter of preframes you tell the reader what they can find on your site on techniques to set preframes. Since this article is all about setting preframes you do get the attention to what more you have to offer. (and it is all in line with the message of this post).
Then, with the titles of the three paragraphs you tell the reader how to watch the video, thus setting the frame of how this is conceived subconsciously.
reading paragraph 1 I see that you set the expectation of the reader to be able to listen to conversations on a meta level, thus never having a normal conversation again (poor sods).

In the “level two” paragraph you tell the reader what you want to do with the audience in the video. Since the reader/watcher has to understand what you tell they have to make an image of that in their mind, thus going to that level themselves.
In that same chapter you give an embedded command to accept you as authority.

In the “level three” paragraph you make use of the “because of X, therefore Y” patterns by telling the reader that BECAUSE they are outside the interaction they will take both content and process and apply it to the reader’s own situations. Thus setting the expectation (preframe) how things will work for them while watching this video.

In the last paragraph (All the fun…) you start with stating “There will be some readers that will be looking at this video and be thinking why bother watching at such depth.” this sets the current reader apart from others (us vs. them) and includes them in an elite group of people who OF COURSE would never ever look at this video in the appalling way of missing out such important information. this creates a frame around the reader with the (sub)conscious idea that (s)he belongs to this elite group.

Now if you don’t mind, I will watch the video myself now . I am already contaminated with the NLP virus so this is just my daily portion in order not to have to go into a rehab program 🙂

      Wow Boudewijn,

Great deconstruction. I’m never going to be able to sneak one past you.

But then again that is exactly waht I would say if I was going to sneak one past you. 😉

      Cheers
