NLP Questions and Questioning Techniques
NLP Questions are the Answer.
A lot of articles I write start with questions, have you ever wondered why?
The right questions lead to answers that can enrich the quality of your life, the wrong questions can obviously lead the other way. Consider the difference between:
Why does this sort of thing always happen to me?
What can I learn from this so it will never happen to me again?
You could use questions to set up anticipation for great things to come, leaving your audience hanging on for the great reveal at the end. This is a trick marketing people know well. Wouldn’t it be great if this article showed you exactly how?
There is a lot in NLP about how you use language and one of the most powerful areas is all about the questions you ask of yourself and others. How would this be as a question to keep in mind, “What is the one thing I can change about my thinking that will give me the best benefit right now?”
Are you already realising how powerful a good question can be?
Are you ready to make some changes just through the idea of asking yourself some questions and then searching for the answers?
Try it yourself now. What do you say to yourself when you are feeling bad, depressed or low? How can you change these statements to empowering questions that would enrich your life and make a big difference?
You can use questions to improve parts of your life. Here are some examples of questions you could think about.
- What do I need to do to get better at [specific area]?
- What is (name the person) doing so that they achieve things and how can I replicate it?
- How can I achieve more with less effort?
- What am I going to do to enjoy my day today?
- How good do I want to be at this, how can I get there in the quickest and most fun way?
Just a little bit of effort, practice and fun at the beginning can bring some amazing results. There are only two real criteria. Remembering to ask the questions and taking the time to make sure they are empowering questions. What do you need to say or do to commit to improving your life life in this way?
If this works really powerfully with you, do you think it could have the same impact on others? How about asking people at work this question, “What do you have to do to increase productivity whilst having more fun?” or challenging your children with, “How could they do their homework better whilst enjoying doing it?” I’m not going to say these questions have answers, or that the answers can be used…but what if there are answers to these questions but no-one until now has asked the questions?
What if you could look in a book like The Persuasion Skills Black Book and it showed you how to set up a sequence of questions to get to a paticular result? What sort of persuasion situation would you find that useful for? What results would you get? Do you want to find out more about the Persuasion Skills Black Book?
Asking questions sets up a direction of thought in your mind and engages your unconscious to find answers. Asking the right kind of questions will set your mind along a path that enriches and enlivens to the point that often the answers are not as important as asking the question. So what questions can you ask that will make a huge difference to your life and the lives of the people around you?
How many different ways can you already think of to use questions? Here are a few ideas:
Personal development: What is the one question I can ask myself that will give me the biggest result right now?
Manager to team: What do I have to say or do to support you in making this project the best result we have ever had?
Trainer to class: Of all the benefits of attending this course which one motivates you the most to keep focused and learning?
Sales agent to prospect: What is the one objection that if we overcome you will realize that this is the best product for you?
Any good NLP Practitioner will recognize these as presuppositional questions. In non jargon terms, by considering and answering the question certain assumptions are presupposed as true. Now you understand the concept how many other ways can you think of using this?
In The Persuasion Skills Black Book we will show you how to create presuppositions, generate questions and then tie them into a specific context like recruitment, coaching, sales and any other influencing situation you can think of. The real power of questions is to get them in the right sequence. Have you considered how powerful sequences of questions would be in a covert influencing situation? If you are thinking this is powerful material can I invite you to explore the information about The Persuasion Skills Black Book with that idea in your head?
