Training for Unconscious Persuasion Skills

Using your Unconscious to Practice Persuasive Techniques

Here is an email from a Persuasion Skills Black Book reader I received recently that is typical of a challenge that many people face when they start learning hypnotic persuasion skills. I have some ideas on how to conquer this particular issue which I will share with you. But first the email:

Hi Rintu,

I bought your book two days ago and love it. I have read most of it already and have started tying out the patterns. The trouble I have is when I am in a conversation I forget to use the pattern and those times I do remember I stumble over my words because I am thinking about it to much. Any advice?

Lewis

I remember experiencing the same sort of issue when I first started deliberately practicing NLP Language Patterns. I usually would forget in the heat of the moment or if I did remember I would stumble over the patterns because I had put myself under pressure.

I already have a lot of material about how to practice persuasion skills in various different contexts so in this particular blog post I will focus on how to build your intention and willpower.

Intention, Willpower and Your Unconscious Persuasion Techniques

When your mind is working well you consciously decide what you want to do and then your unconscious mind takes over to get your there. For example if you decide to read the rest of this article you make the decision consciously. Then your unconscious mind takes on the task of moving the right muscles in the right order to get your eyes to scan across the screen in the right order, it also keeps your heart pumping, your lungs working, your eyelids blinking and you take this information in a way that has meaning for you. Could you imagine what it would be like if you tried to consciously do all of this ?

Your unconscious mind is used to multitasking at this level and specifically likes working under the direction of your conscious mind. Simply put your mind likes to work in a way where you consciously decide on an action and your unconscious mind then just multitasks to get the job done. Now this gives us a great exercise in getting your unconscious mind to learn to use language patterns intentionally.

Persuasive Techniques Exercise

The exercise is very simple…just decide to do something, then do it and then celebrate afterwards. Even the simplest things help develop the bond between your conscious and unconscious so for example I am making a conscious decision to finish writing to the end of this sentence. I then stopped and had a mini celebration of the fact I did what I set out to do (did you notice?).

The reason this is good is because it conditions your unconscious mind as to how it is supposed to work i.e. you make a decision to do something then your unconscious creates the action. Finally you celebrate getting the result you wanted closing the feedback loop.

Let’s move this to learning Persuasion Skills and Hypnotic Language Patterns. Take your favourite pattern…if you don’t have one yet use the redefine NLP Language Pattern. Consciously decide to use it in the next ten minutes then find someone have a conversation and deliver the line. It does not matter if you stumble, the impact you have or anything other than the fact that you deliver the line.

The objective is just to do it and then give yourself recognition about doing it. The more you do this the more your unconscious mind will get used to doing it.  The net result, if you can imagine it is that you start to do this habitually almost to the point where you are so automatic you don’t realise how much you are doing it.

Think about the long term impact of this approach. After a while you will notice that you just have to think of doing something and you automatically  start doing it without being consciously aware of the fact. Basically this is your mind working perfectly; you decide consciously what you want to have happen and then your unconscious mind moves all the right muscles to get the job done.

The Benefits of Practicing NLP Language Patterns

What this means for Lewis and the many others like him (including me) is that a few minutes a day deliberately thinking through a pattern and then delivering it leads you to ingrain patterns to the point where you can’t help using them consistently and you just have to let go and laugh at out loud at how often they just naturally occur in your language.

The Persuasion Skills Black Book is available on Amazon and is packed full of NLP language patterns you can use as well as exercises to ingrain them into your natural speech.

The Persuasion Skills Master Training Programme is a five week email course that expands the information from the book with video and audio presentations so you can develop massive results using Hypnotic Persuasive Techniques.
