The Strategic Conversational Exchange
Have you ever had this situation? You bump into someone either at a social event or at a networking meeting, you know they would be great to add to your social or business networks but somehow the conversation goes all wrong.
You either spend your time flapping your gums at each other without either one of you saying anything worthwhile or you spectacularly fail to reach the meat of the conversation, or you managed to tell them the bits you wanted but for some reason they didn’t quite get the message. John V. Genovese and his Networking Note Card System aims to remedy all that.
Rapport Building Conversations for a Purpose
In John’s Networking Note Card System you get 50 Networking cards packed full of questions and talking points to cover many different situations and roles. You also get a comprehensive manual detailing how to use the cards and various bonus materials.
The purpose of the system is to help you start and maintain a purposeful conversation with a complete stranger in any situation. The intention is to build enough rapport to add people to your social and business networks. Consider how powerful a tool this is when you think about six degrees of separation. The ability to easily have a purposeful conversation is a powerful tool.
John sets out a system which he calls a Strategic Conversational Exchange. He deconstructs the whole process of a conversation into 8 sections starting with “breaking the ice” and going all the way through to “discussing aims and goals” and ending with “parting ways”
John has devised a process of initiating a conversation building rapport to the point where you can discuss significant aims with the expectation that you will be heard. And finally ending the conversation well. This approach has so much more depth than the usual match and mirror thing that some NLPers seem to think is more important than building a relationship.
If you suffer from any of those fancy labels such as approach anxiety, conversation phobia or social anxiety The Networking Note Cards System will completely blow all that away. Firstly because the manual takes a detailed step by step approach and completely deconstructs the conversation so you know what to do at any stage. You then get these cards that give you talking points for almost any situation and you get to put them in a little card wallet that you can keep with you.
On top of this in the manual you get sections on how to make an excuse to leave for a few minutes so you can sneak out refer to your cards and get right back into the conversation. You also get a series of daily exercises so you can break into the system and learn to use it in a safe, secure and systematic way.
My only real criticism of the system is completely unfair. It is about elements that the system was not designed to incorporate. As a conversation process goes John’s Strategic Conversational Exchange system is brilliant and works perfectly (I have been trying it out over the last few days).
What I have noticed though is that you can take a substantial amount of the NLP Language Patterns we have been discussing and build these into the process. There are points when using the SCE where it is easy to introduce mild trance states, there are points where eliciting values becomes simple and there are lots of elements of persuasion that can be built in when talking about aims. Parting of ways is screaming out for hypnotic future paces and NLP time distortion language patterns.
But the crazy thing is I have been developing my NLP Persuasive Techniques hugely because I am working out how to integrate them into this SCE process. I imagine it will do the same for you.
If you are serious about developing your persuasion techniques then I think this is a must have product. The issue is not whether you have trouble with these types of conversation but simply how much you can learn by deconstructing conversations in this sort of way and then building them back up with you language patterns already built in. If you have trouble with opening and steering conversations then the Networking Note Cards System is doubly valuable.
You can find out more about the system here.
I am happy to share my findings with anyone that buys the system and wants to start developing language patterns to integrate into this system
